The Visual Arts Group

About the Visual Arts Group

After 60 years as part of the Warrandyte Arts Association the Visual Arts group is still going strong. We aim to encourage members – beginners and experienced artists – to practice their skills. We foster friendship, development and appreciation for the Arts.

We do not encourage competition between Members. We provide facilities for art expression and exhibit our work when the opportunities arise. We invite you to join us for enjoyable and creative days, using the media of your choice.

Current activities:

An enthusiastic group of artists attend the untutored Life drawing session each Friday 10am-1pm.

Experienced artists can practice their skills in representation of the human form and beginners are encouraged to develop their ability in figure drawing /painting or portraiture.

Experienced, professional models attend each week and members are asked to contribute a small amount to cover the model’s fee. The WMIAA Hall is an excellent environment for life drawing…warm, friendly, excellent lighting and space for everyone to get a good view of the model. It is an enriching atmosphere where discussion is welcome and art references shared.

Friday afternoons are dedicated to Still life drawing/painting. Artists are welcome to bring objects for a still life set-up.

For information about these activities and about possible portraiture sessions, please contact Marion Cooper on 0408 395 299.

The painting group had a temporary lull from 2013, with the retirement of long-time co-ordinator, Pauline Cross. However, we have re-formed in 2017, giving members the choice of painting or drawing, outdoors or indoors, on a weekly basis.

Over the years we have had some fun times away painting together as a Group, down to Sorrento up to Maldon, many and various locations, staying in Members’ cottages or renting.
